Nice article. I am very familiar with the high pressure die casting techniques that are talked about in this article and overall it's very acurate. Although at one point Plate Glass and Tempered Glass were mentioned as examples for something, but I believe the article is wrong. Tempered glass is actually an example of a glass with intentionally large internal forces, not very low internal forces. The cooling of the glass after heating (in tempered glass) actually produces very large compressive stresses on the surface of the glass, which causes the glass to be very strong. These stresses are also why tempered glass shatters into relatively safe small pieces when broken (not large shards), and thats why its called safety glass.

Not sure about plate glass though, article may be right or wrong about it.

I'm not trying to be picky, just thought anyone reading this article all the way through would find this interresting.

Hopefully people continue the work on high pressure die casting (mostly because it directly effects two things that i love, cars and motorcycles). Right now I think almost all of the research for this type of thing happens in Japan.

Doh! Thanks uscgame, you're absolutely right. When we described the characteristics of annealed glass (lower internal stresses) we incorrectly referenced tempered glass, which as you accurately point out gains its strength from additional tension on the surface of the glass. We've updated the article to reflect this correction.

Thanks for the heads-up!
